Visit the Visalia Farmers Market—one of only three Certified Farmers Markets in the U.S.
The Visalia Farmers Market sits in the middle of the most productive farming area in the world. If you’re looking for a savory experience to accent your adventure to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, there’s no better place to discover local produce and goods than at the Visalia Farmers Market.
Visalia is in the heart of California’s Central Valley—the nation’s agriculture capital that produces more than 240 crops for human consumption, livestock feed, and seeds. As the leading producer of citrus fruits, Tulare County is the harvesting grounds for greatness. In fact, the Visalia Farmers Market is one of only three Certified Farmers Markets in the country. This means all agricultural products sold at the market must be certified with a producer’s certificate issued by the Agricultural Commissioner’s Office.
The Visalia Farmers Market has become more than a source for organic produce, it’s morphed into a launch pad for farming entrepreneurs. You have the chance to find a new food discovery at every market. Between the “pick of the week” suggestions and unique hybrid fruits such as limequats and pink lemons, it’s hard to miss the opportunity to try something completely new, fresh and locally grown. Challenge yourself to create a fresh kitchen meal – pick up a recipe from one of the booths and whip it up with ingredients exclusively found at the Visalia Farmers Market.
Visitors will also find staples like seasonal veggies, stone fruit, cucumbers, peppers, hummus, pita chips, ornamental plants, lamb meat, citrus, cheese and pistachios. The market is also home to popular food vendors like Baked Visalia, a local favorite known for their fruit-filled pies. Aside from fresh produce, there are vendors selling homemade peanut brittle, jams, pastries, freshly roasted nuts and more goods too good to pass up.
This market is the perfect excuse to unravel and indulge on your trip with merchants such as Rosa Brothers Ice Cream and the A&W Ice Cream Truck. Check out the Master Gardener information booths to get botany tips to bring to your garden at home; or jump on the chance to win a free basket of goods from local vendors in the monthly giveaways. There’s live entertainment and plenty of activities for the kids. “Kids Corner” is a free event on the last Saturday of every month where children do hands-on activities like vegetable-dyed playdough and citrus-shaped art projects.
More than 80 merchants offer their goods at any of the three markets in Visalia. Artisan items are handmade only, and all produce is sold by the same hands that grew and harvested the produce. The Visalia Farmers Market is committed to supporting the local family farms and small producers of high-quality food. When you buy local, you support a healthier environment, preserve open space, build the local economy and put a friendly face to your fresh produce.
